I just realized that I never posted about our trip to the Back Bay Wildlife Refuge! What a slacker I am! We had a fun-filled day with our homeschool group learning about the wetlands and pond life. The children got to use nets to gather samples from the pond and then they looked at some things from the pond under a microscope.

I tell ya, my kids are soooo artistic. I mean really artistic. Sometimes it just takes my breath away! And Sarah is just a budding Picaso, I tell you. See for yourself…

So, about a week and a half ago, we went on a field trip with our SEE co-op to the Hunt Club Farm. We had a fun afternoon consisting of a hay ride, time with the farm animals, a big haypile, and then the kids got to take a pumpkin home with them.

Last night, after being shown Venus in the night sky, Parker drew a diagram of the solar system. After showing me, he asked me to put it on my computer, so here it is!

This past weekend we went to the Children’s Festival. It was a fun time for all. Lots of activities and things for the kids to go and fun characters for the kids to see. One of their favorite things was the kites. They each got to make their own kite out of a grocery bag, string, and two thin wooden dowels. It was also the perfect day for kite flying! They really enjoyed it and have flown their kites at home several times since.

One of our math tools is a number balance from Right Start Math. The kids LOVE to play with it. Sophie even created her own balance out of a mini pink tower and mini brown stair set.

This post is brought to you by Parent Bloggers and Ore-Ida. Parent Bloggers is asking folks to share their shortcuts.
I suppose my biggest shortcut is having plenty of snacks around. I keep my fruit bowl full and I also have a snack box in the pantry. When I buy snacks, such as pretzels, crackers, or Veggie Booty, I portion them out into snack sized baggies and then throw them in a box in the pantry. When the kids are hungry they just grab what they want. And when we’re headed out for any length of time I just grab some baggies and throw them in my bag. Easy and fast!

Today one of the moms in our local homeschool group showed the kids how to make windsocks. It was a nice little project and Parker was excited to try it out when it was done – wind or no wind!

After cutting the shapes out of material, the kids used different objects to dip in paint and stamp designs on them. After the paint dried we assembled them with glue and staples!

My children LOVE the show Peep. It’s a cute little show on Discovery Kids that teaches children about science. The main characters are Peep, a baby chicken, Chirp, a baby robin, and Quack, an obnoxious duck. Peep is a life saver – it’s the one thing I can count on to calm the kids down during a bad day! Parker has even painted the trio.
